# Community guidelines — VanLifeUK.com

These rules sit alongside the [forum FAQ/guidelines](https://forum.vanlifeuk.com/faq). They’re written for **UK vanlife** — please read before you post.

### 1. Be kind and constructive

- Debate **ideas** , not people — no name-calling, pile-ons, or harassment.
- Assume good intent; disagree clearly and politely.
- No hate speech, discrimination, or content a reasonable person would find abusive.

### 2. Locations, wild camping & “secret spots”

Vanlife depends on people being discreet and respectful.

**Do not post:**

- Exact GPS pins, what3words, or turn-by-turn directions to **informal / overnight / “wild” spots**
- Private land, farm gates, estate roads, or places that aren’t clearly **public and legal** for others to use
- “Hidden” spots in a way that invites crowds or damage

**Do post:**

- **Regions** (e.g. “North Wales”, “West Highlands”), **named campsites** , **official aires** , **pub/car park schemes** where staying is clearly permitted
- Trip reports that respect privacy — general area is fine; pinpoint overnight locations are not
- Reminders to follow **local law** , signage, and **leave no trace**

Moderators may edit or remove location detail without warning. Repeat or deliberate spot-dumping may lead to suspension.

### 3. Safety & security

- Don’t share **live location** or patterns that make theft easier (e.g. “I’m alone in this lay-by tonight at …”).
- Be careful sharing **photos** that show number plates, home addresses, or unique build details if you’re worried about security.
- Scams happen — be sceptical of too-good deals, pressure to pay off-platform, or “DM me for the spot”.

Report suspicious buying/selling behaviour via **Flag** or mod contact.

### 4. Buy, sell, rent & promotions

- **Full listings** (price, vehicle for sale, rental availability) will be on **[vanlifeuk.com](http://vanlifeuk.com)** when launched.
- On the forum you **may** :
  - Ask for advice (“Is this Crafter price fair?”)
  - Discuss experiences with converters or rental platforms
  - Share **Site Feedback** on what you want from a marketplace

- On the forum you **may not** (until we publish clearer listing rules):
  - Run ongoing **classified ads** in every category
  - Spam **affiliate links** , repeated self-promotion, or unrelated business ads
  - Post **multi-level / get-rich** schemes

We’ll add a dedicated policy when the main site marketplace opens. Until then, keep commercial posts minimal and relevant to the thread.

### 5. Copyright & privacy

- Post **your own** photos and text, or get permission.
- Don’t post other people’s **private messages** , number plates, or identifiable info without consent.
- Link to sources when you quote guides or news.

### 6. Illegal activity

No instructions for theft, bypassing meters, damaging property, or breaking the law. Discussion of **legal** parking, camping rules, and insurance is welcome; encouraging illegal behaviour is not.

### 7. Moderation

Moderators can edit, move, close, or remove content and restrict accounts to keep the community safe and usable. Decisions are for the health of the community, not to settle personal disputes.

**If you see a problem:** use **Flag** — don’t publicise rule-breaking for drama.

### 8. The spirit of the place

VanLifeUK is meant to feel **independent, practical and welcoming** — full-timers, weekenders, and “still dreaming in the driveway” all belong here. Help us leave the forum better than you found it.
